TERRY STACEY   ASC

Born: 24 July 1962, ?, Sussex, UK, as Terrence Stacey.

Education: The [Victoria] University of Manchester.

Career: Coming from The [Victoria] University of Manchester, England, Stacey came to New York in its halcyon days of the early 80's, as a still photographer and musician. There he worked at the 'Collective for Living Cinema', making no-budget Super 8mm and 16mm shorts. Returning to England in 1987, he spent the next three years shooting documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, projects that took him to Brazil, Iceland and India. In the 1990s, he worked as a director of photography on music videos. 'I put together a show reel with footage of work I'd done for friends' bands. That actually got me a job on a really low-budget documentary shooting in Brazil. It was almost a dream. The director responded to my work because of my work in natural light. That documentary got me more work.' One job led to another, and soon he was in Los Angeles, shooting music videos until he returned to New York to enter the independent film scene. 'I was there again at the perfect time in the nineties when the Independent Film Channel [IFC] was pumping out great films out of great scripts for just one million dollars.'

Ph commercials dir by Evan Bernard, Hugo Cariss, David Gordon Green, a.o. Ph music videos with artists as Boy George ['Bow Down Mister', 1991], Rod Stewart ['Ruby Tuesday', 1992], Toni Braxton ['Another Sad Love Song', 1993; d: Antoine Fuqua] & Dwight Yoakam ['These Arms', 1998].

Member of the ASC since 2009.
