JAROMÍR SOFR ACK

Born: 20 September 1939, Brno, as Jaromír Šofr.

Education: FAMU, Prague [1956-61].

Career: He is a lecturer at FAMU since 1985. In 1990 he became Head of the Department of Cinematography at FAMU. As professor at FAMU, he supervised a number of short student films, e.g. 'Vyhnanci' [1995, Karin Babinska; ph: Sebastian Milaszewski] & 'Klaun' [1995, Karel Janák; ph: Jan Stastný]. He is a visiting professor at Columbia College, Chicago [since 1999] and the Film Studies Department of Charles University, Prague.

In 1990 he co-founded the Association of Czech Cinematographers [ACK].

Appeared in the BBC2 tv-doc 'Kids from FAMU' [1990, Paul Pawlikowski].

Awards: Valladolid IFF 'Grand Prix for Cinematography' [1989] for 'Konec starých casu'; Czech 'Lion' Award [2007] & Manaki Brothers 'Golden Camera 300' Award [2007] for 'Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále/I Served the King of England'; Plus Camerimage Special Award Director-Cinematographer Duo [2007; with dir Jirí Menzel]; 4th Ostrava Kamera Oko, 'IMAGO Tribute' [2012].
