Born: ?, India.
Education: Scindia School, Gwalior; Hindu College, Delhi University [Commerce]; Film and Television Institute of India [FTII], Pune [1979-?; Cinematography].
Career: Came to Bombay in 1984 and started as c.asst working with doph Barun Mukherjee. 'My first independent work was with Chandita Mukherjee on her series on the history of science and technology on the subcontinent. The subject matter was very interesting and the most challenging part of it was how to transform the material into a visual thing, not like a reading of a textbook. I was shooting this in 16mm and at that time I was also assisting in the advertising industry. Working in the advertising industry did not come to me easily. It took me very long to figure out how exactly to approach working on an advertisement. However, it is a fact that it's the only thing that has helped me survive and sustain myself here.'
Ph commercials dir by Ram Madhwani [for Perfetti Van Melle], a.o. Ph corporate doc's and tv-series.
Awards: Screen Weekly Award [1996] for 'Khamoshi'; Screen Weekly Award [1999] & International Indian Film Academy 'Award for Excellence' [2000] for 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'; Screen Weekly Award [2002] for 'Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India'; Screen Weekly Award nom [2004] for 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'; Screen Weekly Award nom [2005] for 'Veer-Zaara'.
