PAULA HUIDOBRO
Born: 1980, Mexico City.
Education: Mexico City [Art History]; The London [International] Film School [LFS] [1999-2002]; American Film Institute [AFI], Los Angeles, USA [MFA in Cinematography, 2004].
Career: 'My interest for cinematography started through still photography. While I was a teenager I would spend most of my afternoons taking photography lessons at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City. Adolescence and the people I encountered at these lessons helped me develop an interest in reading more books and watching as many films as I could. I started studying film history, and as soon as I finished high school I enrolled [1999] in The London Film School for undergraduate, barely knowing what the role of cinematographer entailed. When I had to start making films for the program I realized that my passion was focused mainly on images and that I had no interest in writing or telling actors what to do. After that realization I felt a lot happier, since I could then focus in trying to understand stories and characters in terms of light, color, movement and composition. I decided to attend the cinematography program at AFI, and I moved to Los Angeles in 2002. It turned out to be a great experience, as I had the opportunity to learn from great mentors.'
