Director Alex Winter on 'Fever': 'At this early stage I began working with cinematographer Joe DeSalvo, creating a very specific visual landscape. I brought Joe in at this time because I wanted to create a tight link between myself and the director of photography, something like the kind of collaboration between Carl Dreyer and Rudolph Maté on 'Vampyr' or Jean Cocteau and Nicolas Hayer on 'Orphée'. Joe and I have worked together for many years, shooting commercials and music videos all over the world, and have amassed a notebook full of ideas to put to use on a film of this kind. Joe is an old-school film purist, a rare breed these days, who's more likely to reference 'The Night of the Hunter' than 'Armageddon'. He also has an artistic awareness as complete as his technical knowledge. Given the very 'painterly' aspects of this film, he was the perfect man for the job.'
