#2: [Left] with dir Kenneth Johnson [1994]
Born: 7 June 1942, Los Angeles, California, USA, as Lloyd Nickolas Ahern Jr., son of doph Lloyd George Ahern Sr. [1905-1983].
Career: Growing up, Ahern experimented with lighting, photography and film processing in a darkroom and studio that his father had set up at their home. 'I started in 1963 as a film loader at CBS Studio Center [Radford Studios]. I loaded the unexposed film into the magazines and then unload it for processing. It was a great place to start because there were twenty productions at any given time and, all day long, I was on set, learning how to conduct myself, how to deal with people. I made friends with a DP who approached me one day to say he was going to start shooting a show called 'The Big Valley' the following week and he needed a camera assistant. I jumped at the opportunity.' Became 2nd c.asst [on the tv-series 'Gunsmoke' and 'Rawhide'], then 1st c.asst and c.op. Became doph on the tv-series 'Simon & Simon'.
Played the role of young Prince Valiant in 'Prince Valiant' [1954, Henry Hathaway; ph: Lucien Ballard].
Member of the ASC since 1996.
Awards: Western Heritage Award 'Bronze Wrangler' [1994, shared] for 'Geronimo: An American Legend'; 'Emmy' Award nom [2007] for 'Broken Trail' [Part 1].
